For our fans across Dawg Nation, this is one of those moments you stop and take in.
On Wednesday, April 29th at the ETVarsity Best Preps Ceremony presented by the Longview News-Journal, Carthage High Schoolās Jett Surratt was named the Male Athlete of the Year across ALL sports in East Texas.
That honor alone says a lot. But when you look at the body of work, it tells the full story.
Jett leaves Carthage as the winningest starting quarterback in school history, leading the Bulldogs to 42 career wins and three state championships. Along the way, he rewrote the record books:
153 career passing touchdowns (7th all-time in Texas history)
755 career completions (9th all-time in Texas history)
11,045 career passing yards (14th all-time in Texas history)
73.1% single-season completion percentage (2025)
68.6% career completion percentage
And thatās just football.
On the golf course, Jett has been just as dominant. A three-time State Tournament qualifier, heās won 11 tournaments in his high school career. This season alone, he fired a 69 and followed it up with a school-record 64 at the district tournament, winning by an incredible 19 strokes.
In the classroom, the standard never dropped. Jett carries a 4.0 GPA and has been named a 2025ā2026 First Team Academic All-State selection in both Football and Golf.
Thatās excellence across the board. Athletics. Academics. Leadership.
Jett represents everything you want in a student-athlete. The work. The consistency. The way he carries himself. The way he represents Carthage every time he steps on a field, a course, or into a classroom.
This is what it looks like to be a champion in every endeavor.
Dawg Nation, help us celebrate this student-athlete on this incredible honor.
Congratulations, Jett!
